Helpful Tips for Women's Nutrition
Women across the country are constantly thinking about ways to maintain the healthiest lifestyle they can. Whether it’s to lose weight or just to have a better sense of wellbeing, it is important for women to get enough nutrition. Many women starve themselves or go on binge diets in order to achieve their ideal weight but it is important to maintain a well-balanced diet and get enough nutrients every day.
Portion control is a huge factor when it comes to maintaining a healthy weight. Learning when to stop eating and how much is the appropriate amount will help your body maintain a healthy balance. At dinner trade your normal dinner plate in for the salad plate. Dinner plates tend to be twice as large as normal servings should be and it is human nature to fill your plate. By trading out for the salad plate, you can portion out your meal closer to the proper amount.
Make sure you get at least five fruits or vegetables a day. You can incorporate them into a meal or eat them on their own. Nuts are also a great source of protein and make great snacks.
Bring your own lunch to work. Make sure to include one fruit or vegetable and add healthy snacks. Avoid keeping snacks “hidden” in your office and instead bring a 100-calorie snack pack to satisfy your hunger throughout the day. By making your own lunch you not only save money but also avoid falling into a routine of running to the closest fast food restaurant or deli. Although sandwiches appear to be a healthy option, be careful at places like Subway and Quizno’s which have options that have more calories then a cheeseburger. Stay away from specialty sandwiches that have added sauces and other condiments. Instead, stick with a more basic sandwich and substitute regular mayonnaise for light mayonnaise. You can also substitute out bread for a wrap as well.
Another way to maintain a healthy diet is to ask the waiter to not bring out or refill the bread basket at the restaurant. Also, ask for your salad dressing on the side because restaurants tend to add triple the normal serving size. If you are out to lunch with a friend split a meal—many establishments serve meals that are three to four serving sizes, so sharing with a friend will save you money, calories and help your health.
