Easy Ways to Prevent Allergies

Allergies affect millions of Americans every year. Between the coughing, itching and sneezing, allergies can severely affect your day and even your work performance. There are several things you can do in your daily life to prevent allergies from affecting the way you live your life without medication.

You first need to figure out what is causing your allergies. Are you allergic to pollen or animal hair? Mold and cleaning products can also cause allergies. There are hundreds of different things to be allergic to but pollen and pet fur and hair affects more people than other food allergies.

In your own home you can prevent allergies by dusting and vacuuming often. Also, keep your windows and doors closed to make sure pollen doesn’t enter into the home. Also, make sure to catch and clean up mold before it becomes a big problem. Mold tends to grow in damp areas like the shower and toilet. By maintaining a clean home you help minimize the chance of getting allergies. Dusting regularly helps minimize the dust mites in the air which can also cause an allergic reaction.

Preventing allergies at work and school might be more difficult since these places are out of your control. You can keep your desk area clean and dusted but it is harder to help your child at school. Talk to the teacher if your child is allergic to the classroom pet or pollen on the playground. You might have to tell the teacher that your child has allergy medicine on them in case of a flare up.

Other tips on preventing allergies are to stay indoors as much as possible during peek allergy season. Keep your car windows closed when you are driving and shower right away after working in your back yard or garden to get rid of any unwanted pollen. When you are traveling it is also hard to monitor the allergens in the air. Planes are full of recycled air and can make your allergies flare up. Don’t forget to bring medication on long flights to help curb flare ups.

Allergies are an annoyance in everyday life but by taking precautions and making sure you keep your home clean, you can avoid severe allergies and live your life in peace and tranquility. You won’t have to worry about annoying your fellow coworkers or family with your constant coughing and sneezing, and you’ll be able to look forward to a good night’s sleep.
